Leaf Paintings in the Classroom

  • Purpose:

To inspire creativity, expression, and positive competition in children, grades 2-6, and to give teachers a fun activity for students to learn about science and art.

  • How it works:

Email the webmaster and request our recommended teacher's outline materials which cover "why trees lose their leaves", "how trees use sunlight (photosynthesis)", "why leaves have veins", and more, as well as how to gather leaves, press them, paint on them, and prepare them for a class contest where all of the leaves will be featured on our site.

In your email request, state the age group of your students (grade), the number of children, your School Name, your School Address, any pertinent contact information, and any other information that you feel might be useful.

In order to paint on leaves your school will need to provide the painting materials: to include brushes, non-toxic paints, construction paper, and non-toxic glue. Nature provides the painting medium in the form of leaves.

Each class has the opportunity (though it isn't necessary to receive free materials from us) to participate in a class contest. In order to participate, you will need to mail all of the painted leaves to us in a sturdy envelope or box where we will pick three winners, scan all of the leaves for inclusion into our site, and return the leaves to your class.

  • What do the winners get:

All children are winners. When we return your student's leaves to your class, each student will receive their very own "Leaf Painter" certificate that honors their work as a leaf painter.

The three that we choose as first, second, and third place will get top placement on our website, but all leaves will be featured under your school name.

  • How many times have we done this?

As of April 7th... None. This is a work in progress, and we expect it will do quite well. Just the same, we welcome any suggestions you have about the materials and the make-up of the program. We want what is best for the children, and truly wish to educate properly. If you find any of the information in the teacher's materials to not be up to par, please notify us so that we can refine the information.
